I have an Excel D-10 that has the upper aluminum trim strip on the viewers side that has popped away from the formica. The strip is a hair too long but when pressed against the body it will fit fine.
what kind of glue is used to glue the aluminum trim to the formica body?

I use contact cement. Dap Weldwood has a small 3 oz. bottle with a brush built into the lid for reasonable cost. That should do it. Quart cans are available too.

Just be sure to clean all the old glue and residue off both the strip and the mica.

I'm not really familiar with Excel guitars but usually, the strip slides behind the endplate trim just a little ways.

Clean, apply adhesive to strip only, stick both ends in behind the endplates first then press down. Pull back up for air to reach both parts then press back down. Shouldn't have any more problems. That's how I do it.

I use ordinary rubbing alcohol to clean up booboos. Sometimes, it will just roll off with your fingers if you let it dry first.

Thanks Jerry. Yes the strip goes toward the end plates, very nice, accurate and tight, just scosh tidbit tad too long, spmewhere between a tidbit and a tadbit LOL

Okay that's what I'll do.

A light coat on the strip should do it. You want an amount that will coat both surfaces without a lot of squeeze-out mess. Good luck!

I would remove the tidbit/tadbit with a couple strokes with a light file.

Done Jerry.
If it fails to hold I may have to do what Butch suggested, then glue again.
so far it is holding.

I guess I misunderstood. Most guitars have that strip extended a bit to fit in the space between the endplate and the mica at the ends. Anyway, hope it works OK for you. I've re-glued several trim strips with that stuff without future issues.

You are correct Jerry, this old brain is not typing what I am thinking.
The strips on the excel glue to the face board and go all the way to the end plate. Fits very very nice and tight. so in order take the strip out and make it that ever so small shorter, I think I would have to remove the end plates.

But yupper, that contact cement did the job, quick and simple.

Thank you and Butch for taking time to offer help.
