Well I went ahead and installed an Emmons Single coil in my Rains SD10. I really like it better than the humbucker that was in the guitar. The real test will be what it sounds like at the gig Saturday night. _________________ It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. |

Hi Paul, its been my experience that when you run a single coil PU, you'll need to turn up your volume a good amount. _________________ Email: azpedalman@gmail.com

I used the Rains with the Emmons single coil at a gig last night. The band was a too loud commercial country band playing at a bar with notoriously bad acoustics. For that purpose the single coil PUP is far superior to the humbucker. The soundman commented, with no prompting from me, that the steel was really cutting through in the mix. As I played I noticed the difference. At times I felt like I was playing a push-pull, not an all pull guitar. I really like this combo. _________________ It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. |

You guessed it Richard. It was the Wrangler.
The humbucker was a Tone Aligner. That pickup sounded real good in the Rains when playing at home, but in the cluttered sound stage of the band, the steel was just lost at times.
I guess I'm a single coil player. To each his own. _________________ It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing.

I only guessed it was the Wrangler because I knew you were there. 🙃
I've been mainly a humbucker pickup user. My new Mullen SD12 has a single coil in it. I am loving it. I was all set to put a 705 or 710 (12 string version) in it, but I love the sound of the single coil. I haven't really run into any hum problems. The only hum problems I ever had was with the Super-Pro I had. I put 710's in that one. I later got an old rack and barrel Bud Professional. I bought some 710's before the guitar even got to my house. My favorite guitar was a Kline with single coils. I may be back on the single coil bus. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) .
