Hi Jim,
After listening to Buddy describe the Emmons guitar he had, I think he is just referring to the cast aluminum neck itself that is mounted (in isolation) between the changer and the key head (both mounted to the cabinet). He most likely had a 70's cut tail guitar (post bolt-on). With this design, the neck is bolted to the cabinet from below but is allowed to expand or contract with temperature change, without effecting the tuning. The left end fits into a pocket that's milled into the key head and the right end simply surrounds the changer mounting ass'y on two sides only, leaving the back plate of the changer mount exposed. Prior to this design, the neck was mounted in a somewhat similar fashion but the changer was actually bolted to the neck tail, hence the "bolt-on" reference. _________________ Best regards,
