Is there a preference for high third (C# / E) or high fifth (E / G) tuning when playing a 6 string dobro or lap steel, tuned to A6 / C6? I like to the sound with the third on top, but most string sets seem to have the fifth on top.

Second question - anyone tried a hipshot bridge on a dobro to switch between open G ( g b d g b d) and A6 (a c# e f# a c#)? It seems you could do it with the bottom three strings of an a6 set and the top three of a g set...

Thanks in advance.

The SIT strings "low" C6 set has 3rd on top. A6-6 has 5th. I don't know if anybody does A6 with a 3rd on top, but for C6 the preference is personal. I'm guessing for 6 string it's usually gonna be 3td on top, and then the 5th gets added on an 8 string by some people instead of more bass strings.
