I am using a Gator Frameworks Heavy Duty Adjustable Media Tray Stand $50-$70) as my stand for Weissenborn and lap steel. This stand hold 45 pounds, has built in safety pin. Since it is a tripod it is very stable. However the tray is not easily removed for transport, but I can put it in an acoustic guitar gig bag with a part of the tray sticking out to carry it. Also makes a great music stand. I put a non slip mat down on the tray and have not had any problems. There are two versions of this stand. I went with the heavy duty model. See photos

Yep, I use a music stand. I just cut the 'tray' down and it fits into my gig bag. I also have a cloth I lay down.
