Tuning on C6

On the first string is the G note above or below D. Also what gauge would accommodate both notes to be able to tune back and forth?

The G is above the D....The average string gauge for the first string G is .012, you might be able to squeeze a .015 or .017 Shocked

on there so it's not so sloppy when you go down to D, i'd take the first string raise off.

you'll find that the tension even on a .014 gauge string at G4 and 24" scale is about 40 pounds. Tension for that same .014 gauge at D4 is about 22-23 pounds. I think that D tension is tolerable, and I'd be surprised if you'd get away with more than 40 pounds. That's way higher than normal tension, even for pedal steel. Result for .013 gauge is about 34 G and 19 pounds D. I'd probably try the .013 first and move up to .014 if it's ridiculously loosy-goosy on the D.

I might try the .012. Jagwire use to use them for third strings on their PP sets.
