Hey Larry and the rest of you guys,
I had a very busy early 70's. I was the bass player for B.W. Stevenson on his "MY Maria" tour. Herb Steiner was our steel player but my mind was on other things as a 22 year old with a R.C.A. debit card and tour dates opening for BIG ACTS as The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Stealy Dan, The Guess Who, and THe Everly Brothers. What a ride!
Too bad I didn't pay close attention to a legend in the making , Herb Steiner.
We keep in touch between his busy schedule and his classy tone and disipline are a joy to listen to. Give Herb's webb site a visit.
Soon I'll be getting a Sho-Bud pro 1.
I do appreciate all of you for being there for us beginners.
De Colores;
Rodney

Larry,
Thanks for the reply. Herb Steiner worked his butt off to get to the top. He knows how to work his guitar but his best attribute is knowing how to treat people with the respect they deserve. He is a great ambassador to the industry and I am so proud that he is a member of the Texas Steel Guitar Association.
Come to the Texas Show in March and see a first class event.
Got to find my electric blanket! Cold Front blew in yesterday. Tonight the low is forcasted to be in the upper 50's.

Welcome to the forum Rodney. Any kin to Rodney Dangerfield? lol forgive the levity, but then you'll get some of that here as well. By the way Rodney D and I are kin. His mother and my mother were both mothers and we went to different schools together.

Seriously, welcome. Drag up a chair get a 'cup o joe' and stay a while.

Rodney,

Yea...I wondered about that too for awhile. I think it bumps the topic to the top of the list, so to speak, so it gets renewed attention and visibility. When somebody posts something new to the topic, it bumps it up.

Rodney and I had some great times together with BW Stevenson, of course making the "My Maria" album, but also just being road dogs together. The 1970's were a cool running time to be a musician in Texas, no lie.

Welcome Rodney; Historical figures like yourself and Herb fit perfectly well to these topics..carry-on! 'My Maria' is almost in the "oldies bin" with people like Brooks/Dunn and someone else here lately (can't recall off-hand) doing it as a cover tune..very durably maintained--like yourselves! JZ

Jon,I've got to tell ya.Becomming old or historical is really a gift from God. Thanks for your thoughts. As far as the 70'S , I can truley say that I got to see the progressive country movement unfold right before my eyes in Austin, Tx on East 21st street. In my opinion, Rusty Weir generated the best examples of a mix of old and new to be called Progressive Country.
Willie , Waylon and all the rest followed with Gary P. Nunn gettin the blues in London,Ray Hubbard's redneck momma and all the rest of Austin's sons. Herb Steiner was a busy man then and continues to just blow us away with his chops and tones. Just a beginners observation from Bowie,Tx.
Thanks for all of you who have welcomed me.
Rodney
