I had the great pleasure of spending morning, afternoon and part of the evening with Clem in his MN workshop. He was generous with his time and knowledge and did an nice job demystifying my p/p's operation while also setting it up impeccably. Also, he's a hoot. And he gives you CDs for the drive back home. What more could a person want?
Highly recommended. He does not check this forum but is easy to contact.

| Clem is a national treasure. His stories are legend. I've known Clem since the late '70s, and when he moved his store to Tennessee there was a void left in the Twin Cities that has yet to be filled. I had the pleasure to spend a day with Clem a few years back at his home in Crystal, and the experience was exactly as Tal describes. When I left, both of my '73 push-pulls were operating to perfection (and still are). He told me then that he does monitor the Forum, but only to see who died. Sad. |

Clem is simply the best. He put three levers on my Emmons GS-10 and is the best guy in the world to deal with.

Clem is a jewel. He has gone out of his way many times to help me- freely sharing his knowledge, selling me parts at such reasonable prices, and sharing rare and obscure music. And his stories are incredible.
I agree with Jack. He is a treasure!

I decided to bump this thread to the top, and here's why:
Since I've mostly been playing my Dobro, Weiss, and 6- and 7-string lap steels lately, my pedal steel has been mostly neglected. (And my chops reflect it, unfortunately.)
Yesterday, I decided to pull the towel off my little GS-10 and plug it in. Even after sitting for months and months, it played in perfect tune. Only problem was that the G# to F# lower on the 6th string was returning flat.
This morning I shot Clem an e-mail explaining the situation. Within an hour, he returned my message with an accurate, concise explanation of how to proceed. In ten minutes, I was good to go.
I would like to reiterate my original assertion that for us push-pull folks, Clem Schmitz is a treasure trove of knowledge and information. His willingness to share his expertise on a moment's notice remains a tremendous resource. |

I don't know if he is still marketing it or not. but at one time he had an attachment for a p/p that made
it play like an all pull.
You could eliminate all the slack in the pedals and/or levers.
He makes a nice 1/2 stop also.
