Bert "Loffe" Göransson of Sweden sounded great & plenty loud playing with Highway 40 in a large room at the Berlin Festival a couple of weeks ago.
He picked a GFI single neck through a Fender Mustang amp . . . what a tone!
The Mustang rocks in the right hands, if anyone's looking for a travel amp. |

John,
Sorry to say I only have a short clip of our set that my wife recorded on her iPhone.
It would be nice to have recordings of everything; there were some great European pickers at the event. |

John,
I only talked to Bert for a second: told him "nice set" etc--didn't want to bother him with questions; wish I had now
But if I had to guess, I'd say it was the 40 watt: it was small.
He posts on a Scandinavian steel site, so maybe you could ask. The guy has killer chops, tone, & extreme taste! |

I used a Mustang III for two years. In retrospect it was a terrific grab and go amp. Nice and lightweight with plenty of power and very affordable. I got many compliments on my tone. I'd say the built in amp models didn't really live up to their names but you can get a very acceptable tone regardless.
My problem was I just couldn't stop myself from incessantly fiddling with all of the 10,000 different settings for amps and effects. Out of frustration I went back to my trusty Twin Reverb where I could just reach back and twist a knob if I wanted to make a quick tweak. My knees and back are now telling me I might want to reconsider getting another Mustang. |

Thanks for the reply, Tim. I was hoping to hear from guys like you who've tried a Mustang.
Peavey makes great amps (I'm using a Nashville 112), but I started out on Fenders and can't get 'em out of my head. Lugging a tube amp is out of the question though, so . . . ? |

I have the Mustang II V.2 and have enjoyed trying different settings with it. I replaced the original speaker with a Cannabis Rex. That made it sound more like an amp and less like a toy but I'm not quite done yet. I also added an external speaker jack that disables the onboard speaker and am currently playing it through a JBL K130 in my Tommy Huff cabinet. It sounds great for six string work. I'll have to see if I can get acceptable pedal steel tone with that setup. _________________ 2003 Mullen Royal Precision, Walker Stereo Steel, Ampeg G-15, Telonics FP-100 |

John & Other Posters,
Here's a pic from Berlin of Swede, Bert "Loffe" Göransson, playing his GFI through a Mustang.
Can you tell which model it is?
He had great tone (I know, I know, it's in his hands) and plenty of volume.
I'm below, far right, doing my twang thang on a PowerSlide since I couldn't transport a steel. A couple of steins made me sound good:)

I count 7 control knobs and a 1x12 speaker and I see the little white illuminated programming buttons just to the right of the mic cable. That would be the Mustang III. |

Thanks, Tim.
The III is rated 100 watts; if that's an honest, clean-power figure it ought to handle nightclubs.
I'd like to own one, based on what I heard in Germany. |

I see them all the time on Craiglist for around $200. I think the 100 watts is probably accurate. Mine had more than enough power for clubs and even outdoor stages. Make sure you get the Version 2. The Version 1 had the dreaded "fizz" issue (you can google it). The Version 2 can be identified by the two XLR outs on the back. These are great, by the way, for running directly into the board. |

Thanks for the sample, Ron . . . it sounds very good.
I guess you can tell I'm itching to try something new that's lightweight. I'll take your word that the Katana is better, since you A-B'd them. |
