National Dobro Dynamic Lap Steel Electric Guitar (1940-42), made in Chicago, serial # 32xxG, hard-to-find all white finish, maple body, plastic facing, original Lifton tweed hard shell case. A supremely stylish lap steel. This early National steel is not only striking to look at but great sounding as well. The stairstepped wooden body and headstock are capped with a solid white plastic overlay, while the black phenolic fingerboard has white engraved fret lines and positions marked in different colored Roman numerals. The headstock marking is an enameled National-logo plate, the Kluson tuners are open and original. The volume control is beside the covered pickup, while the tone control mounts opposite. Beyond making a fantastic late-ArtDeco visual statement, this National steel is a fine player's instrument. Overall length is 32 in. (81.3 cm.), scale length is 23 in. (584 mm.). Very fine, volume pot, tone cap, tuner buttons and 1/4" jack have been replaced to bring this into the new millenium with only extremely light wear. It should be good to go another 87 years. (!) Includes original Lifton case, functional but nothing to look at, and hard wired cord. Very good condition rare lap steel.

This boasts one of the hottest and clearest pick-ups (famous Valco string-thru) I've come across !

Expert info from a good friend of Anne Dopyera, daughter of John Dopyera. He and his brother invented the resonator guitar , Dobro is short for Dopyera Brothers. They partnered with the National String Company , split up and since National had the patent .... the rest is history..... so you are getting this info from the top of National family heirs. You can find no greater authority.

"This is a 1941/42 National Dynamic. - the first version of it. It used the body shape of the New Yorker. Production of instruments closed down at the end of 1942 for WW2. When production resumed after the war, the Dynamic had changed to a rectangular shape. This instrument will have a serial number beginning or ending with a "G" on a brass plate on the back of the headstock. This is one of the last instruments made by National Dobro. Later instruments are made under the Valco name."

Whoa! Whoa! This rates more WOWs than I can do...
I need an expando 5th wheel and wallet, filled of course. But the price is great.
Thanks for showing. Some lucky one will be the next custodian.
