It depends on the gig. When I was in the loop of what major guys were paying it varied wildly. A somewhat normal situation would be that you would be put on retainer or basicly a yearly pay of $50,000 that would mean you were ALWAYS available. You got paid more than that depending on the tour demands.
For older stars doing the corporate or casino circuit pay is often per gig in the ballpark of $500 plus expenses. Band members get a percentage.
This is only an example. I have heard some bands with hits paying much lower or much higher.
If you have a good name act gig you can make a reasonable middle class income. _________________ Bob |

I'll add to Tyler and Bob's comments by saying that it also depends a good bit on what you're defining as a "major star". There are some folks with great reputations who are actually doing relatively little well-paid work still (or yet) and can't afford the overhead others can.
As Tyler and Bob say, it's all over the map. As a general rule, though, my experience is that, depending on which stars' bands you're talking about, it's usually less than a lot of people imagine. |
