Hi all,
Has anyone used or using a Boss ps6 harmonist pedal? Just thinking of one of these for the pitch shift effects.
Kind regards,
Dave. _________________ SHEFFIELD D10 9+8, Bradshaw Webb 614-E, Pro-Fex 2, Hilton electronic volume pedal & Sheffield tone bars. |

I suggest you look for a pitch shifter that is "polytonal." That means you can play chords. I looked at the Boss and as I understood it the Boss is monophonic. You might look at this pedal. There are other pedals that are polytonal - this is just what I ended up with and it does track for steel.

I'll second that comment. I'm sure this pedal has evolved a lot since the HR-2 Harmonist that I have but they look to share some features. I got mine for fun and to create ultra-simple 'accordion' pads in a couple of songs. I find it just too limited to be particularly useful. |

Hi Robert,
Thank you for your reply and I'll take your advice on board. With regards to it being polytonal, it is, if you look on you tube, there is a video that states it is polytonal so you can play chords.
Kind regards,
Dave. _________________ SHEFFIELD D10 9+8, Bradshaw Webb 614-E, Pro-Fex 2, Hilton electronic volume pedal & Sheffield tone bars. |

As I understand it - on the Boss - if you play a single note - it will play the harmonies of that one note but if you play a chord - it won't play the harmonies all the separate notes of your chord. I could be wrong but that said - the Boss does stuff the EH Pitch Fork doesn't. If you could post the video of the Boss doing chords - I would probably get one.
The ultimate would be this with "intelligent pitch shifting" but beyond my budget:

You could play full chords on the PS-6 I had. All I ever did with it was set it to drop the pitch 1/2 step whenever I activated the foot switch, in order to simulate a whammy effect on a 6-string.
Can't really imagine any use for it on steel guitar, as all you gotta do is slide the bar down a fret and back for a similar effect. |

There's a couple instances I know of where a harmonizer has been used on steel guiter. Emmons used a DigiTech IPS-33B Super Smart Shift on "Triple Play" & "Plus Nine" and on live shows. Emmons also programmed it to change chords by using a foot switch.
"Triple Play"

Back in the day Gene O'Neil could play all the Spider Wilson / Howard Rhoten twin parts using the Digitech. All this is over my skill set - I just set it to fourths and play chords and try to work them into a ambient type song - such as it is. Also a harmonizer makes a great chorus effect. |
