| Just acquired an Ernie Ball VPJr volume pedal and not sure which foot to use it with! I am sure I will get it to work with either foot with practice, but there is probably a good reason to choose either left or right? What is your foot of choice and is there a reason? |

I'd say right. If at some time in the future you decide to try pedal steel, your left foot will be pretty busy with the other pedals.
Also, if you play resting on your lap you might find having your picking hand jiggled by your leg moving easier to cope with rather than your bar hand. |

Thanks for your thoughts Jeff. They make perfect sense to me. I have searched youtube and found this video of the master using his left foot!
I know he had the pedal operating in reverse to most volume pedals but find it hard to disregard anything Jerry Byrd does. I am assuming it does not really matter which foot you choose! |

Well, there are no rules and even if there were they are there to be broken - particularly by the masters.
Unfortunately, whichever foot I use doesn't get me any closer to playing like JB  |

How about neither?
Seriously, I never use on with lap steel and almost never with pedal steel. There's no rule that states a volume pedal is "required". IMO many use one only because they think they have to.
