Looks like they have modified the BJ for a better sound. Anyone have one?

I have used one for guitar for about 7 years. Good amp for guitar and probably lap steel if you are after naturally occuring drive, grit, dirt, however you want to describe it. IMHO they are a loud 15 watts that can stand on their own in moderate volume settings. They are biased hot, have no standby switch, and many would say the speaker is not the greatest. If you google blues jr mods you will end up at the Bill M website. His mods are supposed to overcome the amps short comings. I have made no changes to mine and am happy with the way it sounds. It takes pedals well. What sounds good, what works, is subjective. I would imagine part of what is driving Fender's changes is money. If people are willing to spend money to modify the amp, why not change tbe design, and charge more? Not saying that this is good or bad, however upgraded designs usually come with an increased price tag.

Would it be too cynical to suggest that any changes by FMIC are 100% driven by money? The Blues Junior has been around awhile. The began building them in Oregon, then moved production to Mexico. Now they produce them in China. Any so-called "improvements" are designed to improve FMIC's bottom line, not the final product.

That being said, I have a USA-built Blues Junior from 2000 and I love it.

The Blues Jr has never been manufactured in China. The new version IV is made in Mexico like its predecessor.

Upgrades on this version include added head room which should be welcome for some here on this forum.

I have a blues jr. that has sovtek tubes and a Celestion speaker, I use it for my electric guitars a American Strat and tele and a Gretchen white falcon, I love the tone. Lately I’ve been using it with my emmons ,since my session is in the shop, it suits me just fine for practice, plenty of punch. Not sure it would work in a big room tho !
