Hi,
I was thinking about putting two Eminence TT-12s in my Twin for weight-reduction purposes. However, I'm pretty sure they won't fit side-by-side mounted in the normal fashion (too wide overall).
Question: would there be any issues mounting one speaker BEHIND the baffle (in the normal way) and one in FRONT of the baffle? Secondly, would this scenario present any phase problems with the speakers being off-set?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Right now, I have Celestion Vintage 30s in the Twin. They aren't bad, but not nearly as good as a TT-12 for steel use.

You could go with only one 4-ohm speaker.
I see guys are doing this to save weight these days.
I took both speakers out of mine and use a 1x12 extension cab.
Your idea sounds good to me if it allows both speakers to fit. I don't think there will be a phase issue. |

I'm pretty sure the Twin takes standard 12s, and I'm equally under the impression that the TT-12 fits the same form factor as the standard 12.

Did you have to do any special baffle mods to make the Eminence EM12s fit your ultralinear twin?

I have an UL Twin that has the Orange frame JBL's, and I have interchanged EV, and JBL with no modifications.
I also have a baffle I'm not using from my Mojo Twin cabinet, that I had 2 EVM12's in. (silver grill cloth).I made a new baffle, and have an SRO 15 in the cab now. |

It was built with two 12s.
Two 12s won't fit side by side in there, but the stock Fender baffle has one higher than the other, so the holes almost overlap with respect to the vertical axis.
Remember that two 12s is the NORMAL configuration of the Fender Twin and (I suspect) is how it got the name.

Here's what I did. I took both stock speakers out and blocked up the side nearest the transformer with a round piece of luan. Then I put the TT-12 in the side opposite the transformer to balance the weight. The speaker will handle all the power the Twin will give it and you've knocked ten pounds off the weight of the amp. No problem with the impedance mismatch. i like the more focused sound of a twin thru a single twelve anyway.
