Topic: NYXl strings problem - update: seems ok |

I couldn’t find anyone else with this issue - I put a new set of NYXL strings on my steel and it drags at the bar, almost feels sticky. I thought it was my coated bar, but it was even worse with a BJS bar.
Does this go away after a while? Sorry if that’s a dumb question - I know little about such things
I like the way they sound, a lot, but my left hand is actually sore from the friction on the bar
Update: after playing some this morning, it all seems ok. They still feel different than the GHS strings I’ve used, but their ability to stay in tune, and superior tone, more than make up for it.. thanks for all the replies, and thanks to the people at D’Addario who contacted me directly - very appreciated

| I’ve played a few gigs on my Emmons with the NYXL’s using a BJS bar and haven’t had any problems at all. As a matter of fact, I’ll keep using them, they seem to sustain better than the Pro Steel’s I’ve been using the last few yrs. You might try wiping your strings down with a bit of Tri-Flow on small cloth. |

| I always take a birthday candle and rub it lightly on new strings in the bar area. Makes 'em feel like butter, and because it's a dry lube doesn't affect anything else--- |

When I get home tonight I’ll try them again - I’ve never had a problem like this before with anything other than an old scratched up bar, and it was different...
I’m 100% sure it’s a weird anomaly, and I’ve been quickly contacted by the company, so no implied complaint is intended here, just such a weird thing to have happen

"Friction" has some strange causes. I (and others) have had a definite occurrence when sanding on hardwoods - maple, ebony, rosewood - of a "finer grade" of grit on abrasive paper removing material faster than a coarser grit, same make of paper, and controlling for buildup carefully using frequent rinsing to float off particles. Or especially if you're doing some version of "French polishing", you really want to follow instructions about make and procedures of the finish AND the abrasive type, because if you go all improv trying to use the process, but in a new and creative way - goop fury. Sometimes. There's no real super-logical consistency, so having someone tell you that it "shouldn't be like that..." well it just is. As near as I or anyone else figured on that one it has to do with the size of particles interacting? Anytime you can't explain something, but get to use the word "submolecular", by all means do so! I mean, why DOES stainless steel hate stainless steel? A similarity in particle size or... something else even more submolecular-y? See how much fun that is?  |

anyone breaking the .012? i've broken 2 in very short time on the guitar. snapping right above the pickup. bad batch? ordered some singles. hopefully they will last. really like the strings. i can really dig in

| Never ever had that problem. Let George @ Daddario know (address in my previous post). As you suspect might be a bad brew. Usually they are way better for bending than any of the opposition brands??? |
