OK, so I've been a newbie for 40 years. Can't seem to get past a certain point in playing development. One of the things that I've discovered, having gone on a buying binge of PSG training material over the past 2 years, is that there are little keys that one learns that unlock doors to the next level of playing ability.
It certainly is one thing to play a series being clueless as to the musical mechanics, versus really understanding what you are doing. If there is one thing the PSG teaches us it is music theory. What chords go together and why.
A couple of nights ago Julie Andrews was on a PBS episode detailing Rodgers (sp?) of Rodgers and Hammerstein, where she stated that, for the tunes in Ths Sound of Music, the composer used a "trick" of going from a major chord to a minor and then back to a major. Like, "whooda thunk it huh?" We do it all the time.
It's even more fun when one knows the what and the why of what they're doing. Ah... Someday...[This message was edited by Ray Minich on 19 August 2005 at 02:21 PM.]
