Guys I have tried everything to try and get my profex working but I fear it is kerplunked! Any suggestions as to any tricks I can try before I give up on it?
The screen reads...
Peavey Pro-Fex II
Preamp/FX (V1.0)
I did have a message come up once that read "unable to read cache card" and than the other load up message cM on and never goes off. I cannot get into my tones! |

| Sounds like your battery has gone dead. Your settings at this point would be lost. You can try to reset the Profex. It will reload the factory settings, may work for a while or not. Best to see how much battery damage you have in there. Even if it has had a battery-less mod in the past the old acid damage can rear its ugly head again some years later! |

Looks like as many FEX products that Peavey made they would come out with a reissue of probably the TubeFex without a battery that would be winner. That and a Power Amp is all you ever need without breaking the bank! What say you Mike Brown?

UPDATE- My profex 2 has been sparatically working on and off over the past few months. I did tale thr cover off it and found that it does have the batteryless mod and there was no leaking on the board that I could see. Ill post a pic down below.
I find that the back of side of the unit where the power supply plug in gets very warm... I'm not sure if this is heat from plug or the transistor thats on the sidewall right next to it dissipating heat. I suspect it is the transister as it is more to the side of the power plug. Does anyone else with the profex 2 have this scenario. Also does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I could try or if the unit is repairable?? Thanks |

If memory serves, that's a voltage regulator. It normally gets a little hot, but if it's getting hotter than normal there could be a circuit problem drawing too much current...Or a filter cap getting leaky (that's my guess).
Whatever the cause, it doesn't seem related to the batteryless mod. I think a trip to a very good tech is in order. Or just send it to Peavey and let their expert techs figure it out.

Ken my profex 2 sporatically freezes up. When I turn it on the screen says Profex 2.0 and it wont go to the programming. Any quick ideas what it might be before I send it off to Mike? Also I find the jnit gets kind of hot at the back corner. Not sure it this is normal or not. |

| The 5 volt regulator heat sink is on the back corner. It goes get warm. Possible buy bad RAM memory chips?? |
