Happened to surf by the Olympics couple nights ago and heard a lap steel on one of the pairs skaters spot. I think it was the N. Koreans. Anyway it was a lap steel, slide instrumental version of the Beatles A Day in the Life.

Anybody else see it? Know who is was? Sounded like maybe it could have been Ben Harper or someone from that mold. A pretty nice, edgy but mellow version that fit the song well.

Looked at YT for a clue to someone who has recorded an instrumental of the tune, but came up mt.

I heard it also. Pretty cool, but I have no idea who it was.

Jeff Beck
By the way, it was played on a Stratocaster, no slide.

Ahh...I saw a link to Jeff Beck doing this tune during an ealier search but I didn't open it. I'm familiar with his work, but didn't figure on it being done by him for some reason. I was unsure concerning the instrument or the method and/or technique. That's why I posted it on this board.

Pretty cool though. Thanks Mike.

I have seen Jeff do it live a few times, he would be a great steel player, totally has the mentality and feel of it.

Guess I'm late to the party. I hadn't seen the movie in which the tune was done. Lot's of old chatter on the links about it...lot's of live versions on yt as well.

He most definitely has a style all his own. I've seen him on TV a few times with his unique technique.

This tune is really nice. I like it a lot.

I'm no expert on Jeff Beck, but I know that he used a slide quite often in the past. Seems he does not do it anymore.
