in case anyone wasn't aware, Stu left us sometime yesterday. I don't know any details, I only know Stu through his recorded output but I thought it should be mentioned on this page as well.

I'd love for folks to share any memories or stories of Stu, and also post your favorite songs that featured him.

this to me is the quintessential country record, especially considering the history behind the song. the sweetness Stu gives this tune is sublime and his tone is unique. it quite simply doesn't get any better.

Lefty Frizzell - "What Am I Gonna Do"

thank you Stu! I love your playing and I only wish I'd met you in person. everyone speaks so highly of Stu Basore

It's a sad day for me, as Stu was the first pro steeler that I really got to spend time with. I saw him first early in 1964, when he started playing with Kitty Wells and Johnny Wright, and spent hours talking with him whenever they played anywhere locally. He even stayed at my house later, when he was in the area and playing with Ray Price's band.

Stu was truly one of the nicest guys I ever met, and he had a unique sound, no matter what guitar he played. Here's a video clip of him playing the first pedal steel I ever owned:

And here's another (audio) clip of him, also with Kitty, playing the same guitar:

My sincerest condolences go out to his wife, Marsha and all of his family and friends.

Rest easy, 'ol buddy. Crying or Very sad
