Just ordered a set (.012 - .038) from b0b here on the Forum.
I had been using Jagwires for many years and the 011.5 G# lasts nearly forever.
Did you ever break the .012 on the NYXL's ??? How's the tone longevity for the set? |

I have a set I haven't put on yet, curious to see what others say, too. Travis Toy uses them and sounds great, that partially influenced my decision to finally try them.

| None better. Have been using them since they were first released. You will find an increase in your mids with them. They don't break, hold tone and stay in tune |

| Got them on my E9, and they are good, and stable, but you have to lay them all out to get the color code straight. |

I used them until they starting the color coded with all them in one package. Never had a problem with them and I don't remember ever breaking one.great strings.

Enquired about them in UK, they are substantially more expensive than most other makes, sticking with my Jagwires.

The color-coding and packaging was the deal breaker for me. I could even live with the color coding but the "legend" is in tiny print on the end flap of the box....almost an afterthought. Nothing wrong with the strings, but they're no better than strings that are packaged so my old eyes can read them. |

I have never broken an NXYL 012. I absolutely love the tuning accuracy and the way they sound!

I'm with Franklin. You get what you pay for. Read the end of the packet gauges /color codes - simple! If you struggle with reading the fine print, buy them as singles. Those are marked the same as other strings.
PS: (lighter gauges have two in a packet)
Maybe of interest, had a set on for 10 months once (played every day). Very little tone/tuning loss and obviously no breakages. |

Sounds like I will be placing an order next week for the PF series strings. I have never thought about a lighter string for the 7th string F# - G# raise. I never cease to learn something from this Forum.
Expect an order by next Wednesday b0b.
Looking forward to trying them out. |

One more question, in looking at the box (on the side that has the color code explained), I note they have the tension for the strings listed. What tool would one use on a PSG to measure the tension (or can you)?
Just curious, you know how I am....lol... |

DG, I think you would be pushing it testing tensions on individual strings. Those figures are what the string can hack (stretch/loading) before they go ping. If you really want to know, hang a (known) weight on the bottom of the string/s and then measure the stretch with an expensive ft/lb meter. Maybe a trip to their factory would be the easy option LOL
All I know is that they handle repeated pedal steel bends with ease (more than most other brands)

Me again(Sigh), BOB you may be interested in this. A couple of years ago after hearing complaints about how Daddario didn't give a 'hoot' about the steel playing community, I decided to send an email to their Customer service people asking if they were too big to care etc.
(Only string sets they had on offer at the time (for Steelers) were their S/S Xl's.)
Boy oh boy did the email get a reaction. A guy named George from their string department (artist relations)got in touch real quick.
Must say, I loved the samples of the newly released NYXl's I received (singles only), with a comment from George,"see we do care about Steel Players". The rest's history |

The C6th sets have 11 strings, so that they will work with G or D as the first string. I'm expecting to get our first shipment any day now.

I've been hearing only great things about the D'Addario NYXL sets. I purchased a set of the medium gauge & will putting them on today. Sorry b0b, I didn't know you sold them, or I would have bought them from you. I believe I checked around a month & half ago, & I didn't see them. Maybe I missed them somehow?
I kind of wish they WERE in individual sleeves, but the color coding will do the trick! I wasn't exactly sure what to buy to match them, for a few singles to have as backups. I chose the "High Carbon Steel." Is that what I should have chosen? Hope so!!
I have an off-topic question; the reason I logged in just now. I'm finally going to retire the Dunlop finger picks, I've been using for many years now. I just hate to form new ones...after finally getting the exact shape formed, & they feel comfortable & "right" on your fingers.
Ok, the question. I found a pair in my gear case yesterday...but, they are at least 10-15 years old by now. They look good...but not REALLY shiny, like ones that are brand new.
Should I use them...or just buy brand new ones. They've never been used/formed yet.
Also, I use .0225 gauge. I'm curious, what is the gauge of the National finger picks? The ones Jeff Newman use to use...& use to try to get us to use them? I never did, because they're way too uncomfortable...compared to Dunlop picks.

They are available in singles, but I believe Bob is waiting to see how they sell as sets before making a decision as to whether to stock singles as well. But Bob can speak for himself on the matter. NYXL's only come as High Carbon Steel. Hope this helps? |

Yeah, that's what I thought. That's the closest I could find to match the NYXL sets. They don't have color coding, though...but I read yesterday they don't.
