If I want to play in open D tuning and keep my guitar in open D tuning can I play from any song book written for any other tuning simply by transposing. Or would it be better to just play from the music and not from the tab? I know how to transpose from music for piano but I am not sure on the steel because of so many different tunings. Can someone please explain that to me.

Thank you, John

Most tunings have different intervals than other tunings. D tuning does not have the same intervals as G tuning or C6, so simply transcribing is not so simple. None of the tab would cross over. You'd have to figure out completely new tab based on the sheet music.
