I am in the process of ordering a new S10 steel and have a problem finding the up to date Franklin set up .I have seen many posts about some pedals and knees but not the complete set up. THe last complete E9th set up I found was from Feb 1996. I would like to try and figure out some of Paul's licks and think it would be easier with his set up. If anybody can help please post it.
Thanks Jim

As far as I know, Paul's copedent hasn't changed since I updated this chart in May 2001. The only change at that time was the vertical lever.

And for instance, Paul's vertical on the E9 is different on his various guitars, along with various other changes I am sure ...

Hey b0b, I looked at Paul's copedant and you mentioned that he was the first to use the knee lever which raised the F# to G#. I don't have the book with me but I think in Winnie Winston's old book that Tom Brumley had that on his setup which would've been about 30 years ago or so....JH in Va.

Actually, b0b said "one of the first". I don't think Paul has ever claimed to be the first, but he certainly put the change on the map recording wise, and made it part of a lot of player's vocabulary (mine included )...

Right. There's no doubt that others raised the F# strings to G# before Paul did, but he was the one who made the change so popular on country records.

Check out Pete Drake on Jack Greene's "What Locks The Door" from about '68 or so.

Right.
That change was on my first MSA in 1974, if I remember correctly.

I've always liked it for the pedals down Ma7, with the tonic on the 6th string -- nice dissonance if you use it right.

Pete Drake Raised the first~string from (G) to (A) with Pedal-5 on his C6th. neck, instead of G#, which was more or less considered standard at the time. Just a bit of trivia that may not have much real meaning here! But, I just thought I’d mention it anyway!

Didn't know that about Pete Drake raising G to A on pedal #5. I'll tune mind to make that pull when I get a chance. I'm always looking for new things to try. Thanks.

Billy;
That’s not new! That was back in the ’60's! (Just trying to rattle you!) I know you meant ‘new’ for you. You’ll probably have to drop your 1st. str. gauge to .012p, at least!
