I heard the same rumors about some places outside US where you can actually insure people with health insurance... don't believe everything you hear ...only TV News channels...now those guys will tell nothing but the truth.... _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

I have a Travelers home owners Policy that insures my instruments as listed items and states that it covers them when used professionally out of the house. Talk to a rep or agent. It adds about $75 to my homeowners policy. |

Check with your Home Owner Insurance Policy Agent. Some companies will insure them with a rider on your policy. When I played with bands I had my Steel Guitar, Seat-Seat contents and Amplifiers covered under such a policy. |

Hi Stu,
I have Clarion. About $35k on my schedule and I pay less than $300.00. If you want to use your homeowner's policy, be sure to get a rider as Jon Jaffe noted. The standard h/o policy probably won't cover the value of your instruments. And if you have any income from your craft, you are a professional and that usually is an automatic exclusion on the homeowner's policy. My insurance agent is a friend and he recommended I go somewhere else rather than him doing a rider. The Clarion policy covers theft and damage in the home, in the car, transportation, or on the gig. _________________ Bill Cunningham

I did a lot of research on this subject recently. The short story is most homeowner policies won't fully insure you if you ever play for money. There are 2-3 companies that specialize in insurance for pro musicians, dealers and shops for replacement value. I went with Heritage and am very happy with them so far.
Here's their web site.

Great company! 2 claims over the last 15 years or so..... Never a problem. They give a discount for AFM or ASCAP members.

I use Heritage Insurance Services. They have been great. Plus keep in mind that you can fully insure any instrument you ship for repairs or buying /selling . That can save you a pile of money. Covers damage from airplanes and all that too. _________________ Bob |

I signed up with Music Pro this year. Haven't had to make a claim yet but I've heard nothing but great things about them. I was fully insured within an hour of signing up and putting together a spreadsheet of gear with respective values. Very reasonably priced coverage. |
