Hey guys. Just wanted to share something over here that I shared on Facebook tonight...

Well, 2 weeks ago now, I discovered some VERY exciting things when I sat down behind a new MSA Legend XL pedal steel guitar for the first time. I found the ultimate in playability. I found a tonal balance and evenness that I’ve not experienced in any guitar I’ve played before. I found craftsmanship and attention to detail that is unmatched by anything I’ve seen. I found a company that is innovating, discovering, and actually implementing new features and ways to make the pedal steel better than it’s ever been.

When players ask me about gear, I often say that you owe it to yourself, and to your career, to be aware of what’s available, and to be constantly on the hunt for the best possible tool to do the job you’re doing. As far as I am concerned, I have just found a new standard. I am beyond excited to take delivery of my first MSA Legend XL very soon, and I have actually already ordered two more. They’re THAT good folks.

There are a lot of talented builders making instruments right now, and I think we are really in an era where there aren’t any “bad” guitars. With that said, I believe that MSA is truly “raising the bar”, and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of everything that is to come. 👍🏻

Not at all John. I’m not sure why there would need to be a falling out for me to want to play a different guitar. Mullen makes great guitars that I have played for over a decade now. I have just found something that I think is even better.

Boy! That makes me even more excited to take delivery of mine! When I started getting the idea of playing the PSG, I found an old 69 (I think) Zane Beck on eBay. Not knowing anything about these things, I emailed Jim Palenscar about it (I just found him on the web - very nice guy) and he steered me clear of it, saying it had a great sound but could be a nightmare. So I decided to buy new. A lot of folks were talking about how good the new MSAs are so, about the time Mickey joined them, I ordered one. I'd love to have an old Emmons or Sho-Bud but, I think learning to play will be enough headache for me, without having to learn to work on one as well. It's good to know that top players such as yourself Travis, are talking so highly of them. - More excited than ever!

Bobby, I share your excitement as well, as Mitchell and I both await the completion of the first 2 XL Legend S10s. I’m looking forward to posting a YouTube video on it ASAP.
At MSA we are raising the bar, not only in quality, but in customer service as well..

You don't need to convince me. My first pedal steel was a little MSA Classic S-10. I've moved on to fancier guitars, but whenever I pull that little MSA out it always impresses me how great it sounds and plays. Solid as a rock, too. Great company.

Travis, that is a pretty raving review from a highly respected player such as yourself. I missed visiting Mickey and MSA when he was in Nashville. Hopefully I will get to sit down soon and see this beautiful machine for myself...

Cheers,
Scaggs

I bought one of the first MSA milleniums, #000003.

The Customer Service from Kyle and Mitchell was outstanding.

Mickey is a great addition to the team. He has been so generous to the steel community with his teaching videos, and has great passion for the steel guitar.

The future looks bright for the new MSA.

MSA has always been the Rolls Royce of steel guitars.

I have 2 Millenniums, and couldn't be more pleased. Barring some unforeseen disaster, I will play these for the rest of my life, and have no plans to replace them. But if I did have to replace them, my first choice would be another MSA.

I might add that my former 2 MSA classics from the 70's are also excellent instruments that served me well for 25 years. And many of those older guitars are still around, and still being played by their happy owners.

Ken,
Good to see our Studio Pro's getting a little love...I took delivery of this fine machine in January 2017 and it gets sweeter every day! Hats off to the fine folks at MSA in BIG D and even better now that Mickey is helping to raise "d Bar"! Carl
p.s. Darvin W. has the "White Knight" and it's a beaut!

The letters M and A stand for Tom Morrell, and Maurice Anderson. There is some debate about the Some say it was Danny Shields, Others say it was Bobby Seymour.

I read an interview with Tom Morrell and he talked about both of them but, it seemed that he reference Shields more as the early builder. I also read Maurice Anderson interview in PSG and he said it was Shields, for what it's worth - it could stand for both of them.

A couple weeks after I’d received my D10 Legend that Mitchell Smithy had, Mickey called to ask me... “Okay now that you’ve had it a while, what do you really think?”... He can attest, that I told him pretty much what Travis has stated above... this guitar is so incredibly even up and down the neck and across the strings... with the guitar I’d come from (Which I Loved) I always fought harshness and shrillness above the 15th fret, and although my playing may not be sweet, on this MSA the tone sure is sweet no matter where I put that bar... That and it’s a dream to play!!

I could have done with an illuminated fretboard on my last show that closed yesterday. I played half of the steel parts in stygian blackness in the wings!

I thought illuminated fretboards were a gimmick until last week. Darkness is one thing but I had only colored lights playing across me all night - I was seasick by the end Smile

I'm thinking about an MSA and if I have one it'll definitely be the kind that lights up!

I was using my Zum Encore and I ended up taping a pair of LED lights on stalks to the front apron. Not very elegant, but it solved the problem.

As cool and effective as the lights are, ... if you’ve ever gone from a Hardwood floor to carpet, or boat shoes to boots or just at home in slippers, then you’d love how easy it is to change the pedal height from behind the guitar IN YOUR SEAT, without having to unhook the pedal rod from the pedal to lengthen or shorten the pedal rod.

If you’ve ever had your Knee Lever’s perfectly adjusted when you’re playing in shorts and then go to slacks or worse Blue Jeans, then you’re gonna love that you don’t have to move from your seat to re-adjust the width back to perfect.... WITHOUT crawling underneath with a FLASHLIGHT to find that tiny little allen head screw with your tiny little allen wrench, perhaps using unsavory language, then you’ll also love the MSA, IT JUST MAKES SENSE solution
