Hi All,
I have been playing my Carter Starter for a while now, and have been looking for another steel. A friend I know has this LeGrande D10 that he has decided to sell. Any pros / cons with this guitar? Has A Day set up that I think I might just try for a while. What is the average cost for a change over to an Emmons setup?

| Stan: I bought A legrande in the early 80's.The only thing I have ever done to it is play it and put a string on it now and then. I bought a new legrande last year only because I needed to get something lighter, so I went to a d-s10. |

Stan,
the cost of the change over would be about an hour of careful but fairly straight forward work on your part, being very careful to write down which hole in the bellcrank and which hole on the changer the rods are connected to, and then just swap them over. It's intimidating the first time you do it but it's really very straight forward.
As far as the LeGrande is concerned I don't know that you could do much better!

Stan, as Michael says, the Legrandes are very easy to change setup on. You would have to remove/ refit the rods and pulling fingers for the A & C pedals, leaving the B pedal as it is, and also swapping the parts for the E string raise and lower knee levers. Write down the bellcrank (pulling finger) holes and changer holes that each rod is pulling from, and move the bellcranks on the A And C pedal crossbar so they match where the "other" one was. The only other thing is to take note of how much pedal travel is in the adjustment screw on the pedal pull connection at the body for pedal A & C, as you'll want to swap that setting as well. If you go really slowly and carefully, the whole deal shouldn't take more than two hours, and you'll know a lot more about your guitar.
If you buy that one and need it, let me know and I'll send you the Emmons factory rodding setup for the LeGrande II. Great guitars...

I have a very early Lashley LeGrande D10 8X4. I'm not sure how old it is but the bell cranks are 4 holers. It is a great guitar that I bought from Herby Wallace some years back. All I have ever done to it is change the strings every now and then and polish it. The tone is great. I recently bought a Rains SD10, like JW Day, for the weight reduction. I think you'll like the Le Grande. You don't often hear bad things about Emmons guitars. Good luck.

| Thanks all for your replies. Yea, the guitar is about an '84 as it has the short tuners on it. I went out on Saturday to have a look and to hear him at a gig with it. They sure sound good in the right hands! Now I just have to crunch some numbers to figure out where the money is coming from! |

I've had my Legrande since '93 and would part with her for anything!!!
Have been through pull changes on both necks and it's a snap!
