| I have an msa vintage xl in prestine condition. May I ask your opinion about changing, or converting it to an SD 10. People who play only E9th would be benefited by the weight reduction, but would it significantly affect the value.I build steel guitars and could use the other parts to build another guitar.What's your opinion.Thanks for your input. |

Lou Rochelle had an "SS" MSA. He had it converted from a D-10 to an SD-10 (by Bud Carter). It sounded the same after the conversion.
Early 70's, when I was in Nashville, the general concensus was an SD-10 was needed to get "the tone". An S-10 was thought not to have as good a tone or sustain that a double neck body has.
Look at Lloyd Green and his tone did not suffer. |

This will open the can of worms where one person's sacred relic is just stuff to another person who will do as he wants.
I wouldn't half-kill a fine old instrument. Aren't the new MSAs any good?

It will have limited effect on either value or tone, but a noticeable difference in weight.
Although I'd recommend split cases before I'd recommend a neckectomy.

And see if someone would trade your D10 for their SD10. I would never remove my C6 neck, even though I rarely use it any more. I ended up buying a Mullen SD12 with split cases because my Carter D10 was getting too heavy for me.
