I just got a black phoneix bar,,man it's the slickest bar i've ever seen and i own 8 of them now, i also got a control ring that slips into the end of the bar,and my ring finger slips through it,,i won't use the ring all of the time,,but when i play alot and my hand hurts i'll use the ring, been laying carpet for over 20 years hands are wore out,if i could just get my right hand to keep up with my left,i'd be ok.

I have found out over the 10 years that we have been making these coated bars some people use these bars for years with no problem or wear. I understand Bud Carter has had his since 1995 and still using the same one with no problem. Now I have had some people wear the coating off in a short time. I thank that stainless steel strings are hard on the coating. I have also notice that that harder I press the faster the wear. I was trying some fast runs and noticed some scratches on the bar because I was tense and pressed hard. When I relaxed I could do the runs faster with less presure
and the bar stayed smooth with no wear. I thank that with less presure the coating will last a long time like Bud Carters. |

I use homemade, fat acrylic plastic bars a lot of the time and I can attest that stainless strings are somewhat harder on bars. |

I just got a 12-string Black Phoenix bar in the mail from Al Brisco at Steel Guitars of Canada..... a Father's Day gift. I really like it. It's very smooth and free of string noise. It seems to add a bit of sheen to my MSA mellowness. It's way better than my Dunlop, which has chipped badly during 2 years use. I'm hoping this Black Phoenix will last a bit longer than that. |

Oh well. After a weekend of playing, I've returned my Black Phoenix. It chipped and peeled in a few places, and it's too rough to use. I don't think this is acceptable in a tone bar, especially for guys consistently gigging. I only owned it for a week or so. I know these guys stand behind their product, but I'm still stuck without a bar for a week or more while I await my BJS in the mail.

I'll stick with my 30 years old Emmons bar, right diameter, right weight, and it says "EMMONS" on it(:>=|
