If you like traditional country, Rhonda Vincent and Daryle Singletary's new CD "American Grandstand" is outstanding. Both Mike Johnson and Tyler Hall play great steel on the album. Mike plays steel on this Harlan Howard tune, "Above and Beyond".

Here's a shot at the Intro and Break...see what you think. The last phrase of the break is a little tricky - thanks to Randy Schneider for slicking up what I originally came up with. That's a cool Mike J move where everything sort of "smears" together.

Questions, comments, and the right way to play it are always welcome! Smile

Note: knee lever H lowers strings 5 and 10 1/2 tone.

Here it is on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYfwpjmPYh0

The break starts at 1:10

Great duet vocals on this version, and thanks for tabbing it, Jeff!
I really like Mike Johnson's playing and sweet tone he gets.

Jeff, thanks for posting this tune and tab. Never heard of this duo which shows you how out of it I am. Mike Johnson really nails it and I especially learned a lot about backing the singer. Are the other tunes on the CD equally as strong?

Thanks for taking the time to figure out the tab, Jeff. I will give it a try this weekend.

Hey Steve! No reason you should have heard of Rhonda and Daryle having lived in China all these years. They both are successful solo traditional country artists - I think this is the first time they've teamed up for an album. It's a great album start to finish. Here's the title cut called "American Grandstand" - very nice steel by Tyler Hall on this cut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u681WHwoNpI

Thanks for, covering for me,Jeff, but I should know this band as I do get YouTube etc.

My guitar with the E9 neck is at our band's practice place so I won't get the trying the song until next week. I am listening to it though and jumping back to your tab to get a feel for the break and solo.

I have questions about several of the levers.

What changes are levers. E, H, and G making to strings 2 , 5 and 6?

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

the changes are as follows:
E lever, strings 2 and 9, -1/2 EE lever string 2, -1
H lever, strings 5 and 10, -1/2
G lever, string 1, +1, string 2, +1/2, string 6, -1

If you don't have an H lever you can also move things up to the 3rd fret using A and B pedals - start with a half-pedal on A and rock into a full A pedal

Your tab is always great to have. Thanks again Jeff.

You have the neatest handwriting I believe I have ever seen. Smile Smile

For what it's worth, I give you the Handwritten Tab Penmanship Award. That's an honored award to have. I bet you're the only one with that award on this planet.

Enjoy.

Smile

Thanks, guys...I enjoy doing the tab.

Mark - I took a National Guard class years ago and one of the instructors walked by my desk while I was taking notes. He looked at my notebook and said, "I would advise you never to send anyone an "anonymous" threatening letter. You have very distinctive handwriting and you'd be arrested before the ink was dry!" Turns out he was a handwriting analyst for a law enforcement agency for his day job. Smile

Jeff, you could get some extra work for doing the print on book covers . As Mark said, you have some real distinctive handwriting that would be a big hit . But then you would not have much time for doing this meticulous tab for all of us. Forget my original suggestion.

Thanks,
Stevet
