Just bought my first psg. It's a 10 string. Need recommendations on buying tone bars. Is chrome better than stainless steel? What brand and size should I consider?
Thanks-Terry |

Welcome. This is a great resource.
Start with a standard Dunlop. Practice learning the instrument - which will take years - and then worry about the nuances of things like this later. This is a great resource, but it's often full of contrary opinions underlying the great truth about many things in the steel guitar world - these things are really up to personal preference.
If you do a search on here, you will see many, many threads on this topic. My take is that you don't need an expensive, hand-made bar bejeweled with your birthstone at this point. A good ol' Dunlop is totally fine for your needs at this point. Personally, I use a John Pearse.
Good luck studying the instrument. _________________ Click here for the Index to Mickey Adams's YouTube video lessons

I like my Zirconia Tone Bar the best, hands down. I wish I had a 1" x 3.5 , but my 15/16 & 3 1.4 will do just fine. It is a sweet bar, that is quiet & works well... _________________ Steel Guitar players are members of a Special Family |
