My tube amps are old and cranky and it seems like they always are in need of some kind of repair, like an old vintage car. I currently have three of them down with various ailments. I think it's time to look for a solid state "daily driver". I remember back in the 80s I had a couple of Peavey guitar amps that were built like tanks, sounded good but not great and I never had a single break down.

How does the Peavey Special 130 stack up? It looks like a smaller Nashville, except missing the on board compressor. I like the small footprint and when they show up they seem to be very affordable ($150 - $200). With 130 watts it looks like it would be a good sub for my Twin Reverb. Does anyone here use one?

Tim,....I've used a Special 130 for electric lead forever. It's a great amp. Now I've also had to play pedal steel through a 130 and a bandit 65. They both do quite well for steel. I believe if I was going to use a 130 regularly for steel I would consider a speaker change to a NEO speaker.

Excellent amp with more than enough power. Easy to dial in a good sound for several different steels I've used. Sometimes I've paired it with another 130 & also with with a Roland XL80 & got that big even more impressive sound.
