Richard, I would like to read it. Maybe you could put up a direct link to your dissertation as opposed to everyone having to do computocrap. You have enough interest. _________________ Excel 3/4 Pedal With An 8 String Hawaiian Neck, Sierra Tapper (10 string with a raised fretboard to fret with fingers), Single neck Fessenden 3/5

Richard, Congratulations! I too would be interested in reading your dissertation. I remember watching Buddy Emmons playing at the steel convention in St. Louis one year and he made a comment that went something like, "the pedal
steel guitar isn't just a jazz instrument". |

Congratulations on attaining your Masters, Richard!
I've started reading your dissertation in Dropbox, and one thing I would like to compliment you on for now is how you construct your tablature. I like how you type the numbered note to be played on the line, rather than in a space between two lines.
I don't know if it is just me, but starting out decades ago as a lap steel student as a kid and later a guitar (and lap style dobro) student, most of the TAB I have utilized in my life has been where the numbered notes are typed on the black line. To me, it's like looking at the screen or paper and I am seeing the note on the actual string. It is easy for me to instantly visualize which string is supposed to be played.
I have found over the years that the vast majority of pedal steel TAB I have come across is designed where the author types in the numbered note to be played in the space, rather than on the black line.
I have a difficult time relating to TAB done in this style - when you're talking 10 strings per neck, it sometimes takes me a few seconds to connect which string is to be played. _________________ Mark |
