I've had the pleasure of owning and listening to Buck's new CD, A Work in Progress, the past week.
I'm not anybody important to listen to, and I don't usually get abundant with enthusiasm about new CD's, but I'm really impressed with this amazing piece of work. There's a lot of steel guitar and a lot of quality.
There's so many good things to comment on. For example, there's a conviction and focus on each track that feels like he's really into this one song he's playing right now.
In addition to that there's an exuberance, vitality and commitment to each of the swing or jazz tracks that makes me smile whether I'm in the mood or not. The dynamics are superb imho.
On the slow ones, there's a lot of heart and feeling.
The focus, intonation, clean picking, skill, phrasing, musicality, dexterity are just amazing. The tone - I've listened to it all week with a flat eq on whatever player I'm using and to me his tone has a fascinating, compelling quality.
The ones I think he might have written are really memorable imo; they stick in my mind long after hearing them.
What a nice CD. A nice mix of tempo, originals, standards. What a nice job. And the title, A Work in Progress - I like it; it seems to blend humility and promise of more things to come. And if the next CD gets better than this, it's going to be scary.
To all you guys on the forum that gave me a heads up on this CD, I'm really grateful. And especially to Buck, I really enjoy listening to this and to all the smiles it's brought to me. My sincere thanks.

Bob,
Thanks for the heads up on Buck's new CD. I had the great pleasure of working with Buck on a TV show a couple of years ago. What a great player and a really nice person. I'll be ordering his new release right away.

Just got mine in the mail, listening to it for the first time and all I can say is GOOD GRIEF, what a player. I love it, and I like that I can listen to some guitar by Larry Black on it too. Sure glad I bought it.

I don't think that I have ever heard a better "touch" on the psg in my life and I sure hope he does more. Thanks Buck. |
