A failure of the blend pot on one neck of my D8 led me to poking around the underside of the control plates.
I believe the darker pickups are older than the grey ones and one pickup (see red arrow) has an electrical open in its coil.
My question for any Stringmaster repair pros; What is the most practical way to fix this problem?
Can the one pickup be replaced or should the pair be replaced at the same time?
Is having a pickup rewound as good as buying a new one?
Is it worthwhile to replace any pots or caps while I have the guitar torn apart? |

First, rewinding a pickup is easily done, especially the single-coil ones. The only problem would be whether the black stuff on the magnets and fiberboard is wax or some kind of potting epoxy. Second, I suspect that the darker pickups are newer than the grey ones. Fender never put stickers on their pickups or used black potting wax, if that is what that is on the magnet bottoms. _________________ Michael Brebes

I had one of the pickups re-wound on the Dual Pro, by Sentell Pickups( not sure of spelling !) It matched the outupt of the other pick up very good... |

Of course Jason Lollar can do it also, but he is super busy these days it seems... |

Just ordered a new set of 7-string Stringmaster-style pickups from Jerry Sentell. They will be the fifth and sixth pickups he's made for me; I'm a big fan of Sentell pickups. |
