Any definitively know how easy/hard/impossible it is to add addtions KL's to the Sierra Artist S-10? It has 3+2. Because the body is all aluminum, all the hardware for pedals and KL's is affixed to a plate that screws into the body. I don't see threaded holes where you'd want to add right KL's. Thanks for sage advice, gang!

I have had several students with those guitars with only the 2 knee lever, looks to me like a trip to the hardware store could solve adding the other two. You just have to be a little inovative. I have made & added lots of knee levers from the hardware store parts. Take a look at that one real popular student model, it looks like it was 'born' in the hardware store!!

Bob, thanks to your urging here's the scoop from Tom Baker on the Artist and possible upgrades:
the 3+2 model is called the Artist Pro. A model with 3+4 was the Artist Pro 1. Neither are considered student models since they have 3+/3- changers.
The Artist Pro can get 2 additional right KL's with a $300 add on kit from Sierra guitars. The metal body is pre-drilled to accept it. So if you pay $800-900 for the guitar, another 300 for the upgrade, for no more than $1200 you got yourself a very light and nice pro 3+4, quite the deal! PLUS, it usually comes with their Wheel Eaze fiberglass case with wheels and handle, super yummy.
The one I have plays and sounds really good, and is SO light. It'll probably sell to my female student for weight reasons alone. Or I might keep it for a flying-gigs guitar, who knows.

Don Christiansen loaned me one for a couple if weeks once. It was tricked out - an S-10 with 4 pedals and 5 knee levers. I enjoyed playing it and, as you said, they are SO light!
Dr. Hugh Jeffreys plays a D-10 Sierra Artist and swears by it.[This message was edited by Bobby Lee on 13 June 2005 at 07:42 PM.] |
