Rhode Island does not have a lot of Western Swing,
but the local band "Western Stars" puts on a show/gig that creates a fun time right here in "Little Rhody". Roger Trahan and I went to see them on June 23rd at the "Parlour" in N. Providence. They had EIGHT pieces with Chris Brooks on Pedal Steel. Chris knows how to pick. Counting my first experience on June 23rd, I have since had the pleasure of seeing them on August 4th at Austin Farm in Exeter, (with Roger doing a good job filling in for Chris who was in Italy), and August 24th at the "Parlour". I believe they play the "Parlour" on the first Friday of each month. For more info email Chris at: jchrisbrooks@hotmail.com |

Manny, good to hear, Roger is a great player and a heck of a nice guy.
I guess you can always call the style as 'Eastern Swing' _________________ Regards, Craig

Hi Craig, "Western Stars" is the best in the west. It`s too bad they`re in the east. |

Thanks, Manny, for that plug! Yes, first Friday of every month the Parlour shouts "Yee-haw!"
It's always fun to talk to the steelers that come in--like you and Roger. (Probably sounds like nuclear physics to everyone else!)
And John W's group (from the NYC area?) is outstanding. Plus--Hawaiian shirts!
I think I recall correctly that John plays a Zum . .

You must be psychic! Today is only the 16th!

OOPS After my 1st visit June 23rd at the parlour, I meant to say, July 23 at Austin Farm with Roger Trahan, and August 4th with Chris Brooks back from Italy. Boy am I losing it or what!
Hi John, Yes, RISGA is having the annual steel show on October 28th. Last year was a succesful show with a nice crowd. We would love to have you and Darlene perform. |

Just bumping up and hearing from Chris Brooks that he is planning to do some interesting publications on steel guitar. Chris is an English professor so he has the mental tools to work with. |
