One of my Goodrich volume pedals has a slight issue. It functions well until I open it all the way up (or close to it, anyway). Then the signal cuts out completely! As soon as I back it off just a fraction it's working again.
Does anyone know what might be happening?
I don't normally put my foot all the way down but I'm currently playing a show using IEMs and the mix suddenly changed for some reason. So I discovered this flaw by accident. Any suggestions welcomed.

Sounds like a short to me. Open it up then look and see if any of the wires are getting pushed on when you put the pedal down. Or it might be that the pot is maxing out early and shorting out. Is your volume off when then the pedal is in the up position ?
The goodrich pedal is as simple a design as it could be. The fixes are generally obvious and easy.

| Check that the jacks mounting nuts are tight on all the jacks, but sounds to me like you may need a new pot. You might also take the bottom cover off, work the pedal and make sure nothing is touching at full throttle. |

| Possibly the part of the pot track got wiped out in the full on position or your pedal setup is pushing the pot hard against its end stop before reaching the pedal stop. You could try loosening the pot pulley and rotating the pot by hand to see if the pot is ok over its full travel. |

| I would check at what position it is off. I bought a goodrich 120 VP on the forum thinking I was going to have to replace the pot because the owner said it cut out but the off cut out was set to quick now in natural off position it can be heard slightly but heal down it is completely off and it works fine. You might try setting the off a little before the bottom I set it by taking a flat screwdriver in the slot of the pot and moving the pedal slightly toward the off position. Jerry |

| The most common cause of this problem is that the adjustment of the pot has allowed for the pot to act as the forward stop causing undue pressure on the pot. Kevin at Goodrich sets up all pedals using an ohm meter to insure that the pedals are maximizing the throw of each pot but not allowing for the pot to act as the mechanical stop of the pedal in both directions. |

It was an old Claristat pot and was dead at very end of full on travel. It now has a new Goodrich pot in it and on it's was back home.

| I had one that was going past the stop and starting over. it was a loose cover. you can adjust the string so it don't travel quite so far on. |

I agree with using an ohm meter when setting the pots. It is the most accurate way.
I do the same thing when I replace pots.

| always use an ohmmeter when installing pots in the vp...adjust the pot so it will not be fully off when the vp is down and not fully on when the vp is up..that way you won't be banging the pot in either direction. |
