It`s a great intro. In fact I think Bobbe`s steel playing on this record are cool and fresh and many licks there I`ve never heard before.

Bobbe, What gear did you use? Yo me seems like a Emmons PP. I love the way the 3rd and 5th string "sings".

Those are some good sessions.
Just wonder why Odell Martin wasn't used. He was pickin' lead for Faron in that timeframe.

Now that is "Real Country"..melodic, smooth, framed...unlike some of that s@#t they call country today. Bobbe you could play with anyone out there. My kind of music, my kind of singer {God rest his troubled soul}, my kind of steel "Person". Excellent job by all!Even the studio mix back then, had warmth, and seem more alive then today! Just a great take on great songs.....

I agree. How do you compare that playing with the edited Pro Tools crap thats on top 40 country rock radio today? I'm sorry but there is NO comparison in the playing, production, or REAL country arrangements of those recordings. I'm starting to buy more old George Jones and Mel Street albums the more I here it. Bobbe gets CLASSIC retro tone on those recordings with some very tasteful playing. That is the sound that I shoot for when I play out.

The last CD project I did for Jimmy Peppers was done the "old way". No piece by piece. Jimmy made a comment about "just like The Barn".

Kevin mentined Mel Street, Jimmy Peppers was the producer on one of his albums.

Superb harmonics, soulful fills and he even played fast! Really great stuff and what a voice Faron had!

Bobbe: Please post the gear you used on that recording. How about some info about the studio? For example, was the drummer in a cage? Were all the amps in the same room?

Thanks!

I have always felt that Bobbies playing is tasteful and unique. He is a monster player with a killer tone. I sure hope he makes the Norwalk CT.show this fall.

The difference between then and now? Back then, the pickers and singers "made music", now they "engineer music". It's really sad.

I almost missed them!!! I didn't realize those were clickable links until I read this thread. I had read the newsletter and deleted it. Fortunately it was in my back up. I'm so glad I got them, I can't describe how much they mean to me. Thank's Bobbe.

Answers to your questions guys,
Bob Hoffnar. A diminished chord, on strings 1,2,3,4. E9th neck.

The equipment used was a D-8 '62 Sho-Bud Permanent, two knees, six pedals.
The amp was a Kenny Cain Sho-Bud with a 8" JBL D-208 speaker. Bigsby volume/tone pedal.

O'dell Martin had left Faron by the time this record was made. He was a good friend and incredible player. Grady Martin was the player on this album.

Geroge Redmon, You say I could play with anyone? I already have, been fired by the best!

Frank Estes, The drummer was not in a cage, just some short sound baffles in front of the drums. The amps were all behind the players, no sound baffles, we played sort of low, everyone could hear everyone, but there was very little "cross feeding" of instruments.
The studio used a 16 track (state of the art)2" Ampex machine. I don't remember what brand the board was,

Morten,
Yes, I will be in Norwalk CT. in November. Thank you for asking.
