My trip to MSA, And the future of Steel Guitar.
I arrived at msa at 845 am yesterday, to get familiar with the products, and to meet the people that make MSA what it is today.
I first met Kyle Bennett about 5 years ago at the Dallas show.
They have held the room right next to us for years.
Several of the worlds top
players have been affiliated with them for many years. Joan and Johnny Cox, Junior, and of course.. the formidable David Wright..just to name a few.
What most of us don't get to see is the heart of the company..the people that dedicate their lives to producing viable products, not only for the Steel Guitar world, but also in support of our country's defense departments.
These are dedicated craftsmen that have been on a quest for many many years. The result is 20,000 pedal steel guitars that bear the name MSA in circulation around the globe.
It's an amazing thing in itself, to watch the world change as we grow older and wiser. The same holds true for the ideas that manifest themselves as design changes in the products that we produce.
The pedal steel guitar manufacturing businesses in America all have one thing in common, and that is that they are usually very small, and family run.
Output is not huge, and the emphasis is always on quality, and for the end user, TONE..always the tone..
MSAs history includes a very long list of incredibly dedicated people..True pioneers of the industry, that have dedicated their entire life lives to their craft
. More importantly, they dedicated their lives to improving our experience with music itself, through the production of the very tools we use to bring music to life..
Over the last 3 years I have found myself drawn to the "players next door" at the Dallas show, and have spent quite a bit of time standing behind the players with my Telecaster in hand.. watching, and learning from the real
Pros of the industry
This dedication to quality and innovation has reached a pinnacle as of late. It is not only my belief that the current MSA products are the best pedal steel guitars that are available today, I believe this is MSAs time to shine...
The trade shows such as the Dallas Jamboree have been the primary means for public interface, but in my mind, I feel we need a more effective mechanism to put the products in front of the customers.
The first suggestion I had was to approach our hero Bob Hempker
At Steel Guitar Nashville, to do an MSA weekend at his store in the near future..
This will not be your average "come play our guitar" gathering..
I will have no less than 3 guitars..a D-10, S10, and S12. I will have no less than 9 different pickups, 8-10 different amplifiers. The guitars will sport Lfrets, metal necks, as well as wood. The Telonics, Revelation, Avalon, and a few other preamps will be provided as well as numerous effects pedals and rack components.
Never in the history of the instrument have this many different variables been available to compare at one time.
Now the next problem, is that doing this in one location is not going to reach our potential
customers across the globe.. and that's where the market is.. it's worldwide... So I suggested that we consider a program to circulate demo guitars throughout the US first, and if successful, possibly on an international scale.
Customers would be able to have an MSA demo guitar shipped directly to you for a trial period.
The customer would bear the responsibility for the actual cost of the instrument in the event of loss.
At the end of the trial period the guitar would either be returned to MSA, or sent to the next recipient at the customers expense. If however you decide to purchase a new MSA, the company will pay the shipping and insurance for its next leg.
These ideas are only the tip
of the iceberg here, as everyone involved in this company share my vision of continually improving the products that we provide.
You can expect us here at MSA not only to listen to you when you share an idea or a concern, you can expect us to act on it as quickly as humanly possible..
We are going to build your dream guitar, and we are going to stand behind it like no other company will..
Expect dates for SGN to be posted here within the next few weeks.
My email is mickey.adams@msapedalsteels.com.
Requests for artist endorsement can be sent to this address as well. We will be actively addressing this facet of marketing on an ongoing basis..!
Here at MSA ... WE ARE RAISING THE BAR!!

Paul

MSA shares a building with a company that builds exacting machined parts for the defense industry. That is one reason why the MSA guitar parts always look so exact. They are build to the same exacting milspec standards as the DOD parts they manufacutre.

Microspace has no ownership in MSA - Microspace is just a supplier/customer relationship with MSA. I'm the only one with ownership interests in both companies.

So far the Cliff's Notes version, you own an aerospace company and use it to make parts for the other business?
That's cool.
