If you have a black box or other buffer, that should be first. I'd put the fuzz first after the buffer, dead first if you don't.
If you put it after the volume pedal, you'll only get hair when you open up the pedal. This is usually annoying, but there are situations where you want that..
Wait. If you run a T-Wah, the T-Wah (or other envelope filters/followers) should be before the fuzz.
I'm starting to think that the most accurate answer will depend on what else you have with you.

Agreed. Most, if not all distortion devices manufactured specifically for steel guitar such as the 'Hiltone' or the Goodrich 'Steeldriver' are designed to be either plugged directly into the output jack on the guitar or clipped to the leg thus placing them first in the signal chain.

I hope more guys also respond to this one . I never seem to know where you place boxes in relation to one another.
I just bought a Boss GT 10 so I won't be using stomp boxes. Would the GT 10 also go before the Hilton volume pedal ?
Thx, Stevet

I go into my Tuner - EarthDrive - Volume Pedal - Klon - Pitchshifter Delay - Keeley Dark Side - Strymon Dig - Strymon Flint.

I like at least one of my Distortion/OD Devices to have my full signal from the steel. This allows me to have a Distorted/OD Sound at a Lower volume.

On Guitar its pretty common to be wide open into your effects, not so much on steel because of the volume pedal, most folks are not playing with the VP fully on.

Here was an older video of some effects i was playing with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzEhsS-2EBU

You can put it anywhere although the "rule" is gain before delay. Some guitarists will run into a tape echo before they run into their amp getting pre-distortion from that. So you could run the delay first and then into the distortion.

I use two distortion boxes...one right after my Freeloader and one after the vol pedal...that way I can choose to have full distortion and any volume or distortion that varies with how far the pedal is pushed, more like how it works with driving an amp...
