Gentlemen (and others):
There is an eBay listing for what seems to be an old Maverick: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7317923046&ssPageName=ADME:B S:US:28
Having had a brief flirtation with a Red Baron (we won't go there) and having continued to read the Forum, I am considering another shot at the pedal jobber. I seem to recall that certain early models were better. I would appreciate any comments on this one, to be used at home for that 'sound' when called for, not a rig for professional use.

Charlie, that ebay item is NOT a Maverick
that looks more like some homemade rig
ShoBud made Mavericks as an entry model
this is one : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=47066&item=7318993813&rd=1
there was also an ealier Maverick which looked more like a ShoBud
it had a raised neck, SB key head
3 pedals & ONLY 1 knee lever
honestly i find them outdated by todays standards.
i started out on one....
Todays's Carter Starter or WBS Student models beats it hands down

There is nothing about this guitar that screams "junk" to me. And there is nothing about it that even hints at Sho-Bud Maverick. But it is so unrelated to the Bud that it doesn't even strike me as fraud. Just someone liking that name and using it.
What is missing, though, is even a single picture showing the stuff that matters. Primarily the undercarriage. Also the changer. It does seem to have a roller nut. That's significant.
If you are remotely interested, take the seller up on his offer and request extensive photos of the underside.
But keep in mind that this is a workshop wonder, not a commercial product. No guarantees. But you never know.
A bit of a long shot though. |

The logo on the pedalboard is from a Ford Maverick, probably as close as it gets.

That fretboard makes me wonder...
Why didn't more (student model?... non-pedal?) steels have some secondary fretmarkers that outlined the common slanting positions?
Hmmmm? |
