I'm trying to adjust the height of pedals on a used PSG, it looks like someone applied Loctite threadlocker on the pedal rods where they connect with the ball joints.

I was able to remove one ball joint, but the threads on the pedal rod are now fouled with thread locker. I want to clean those threads.

All the info I can find on the internet involves heating the metal to get the threadlocker to release. I've already got the ball joint off.

Now I want to get the gunk out of the threads.

I use a candle and pliers. Take your time. The soot wipes off.

I think red thread-lock needs something like 600 degrees to break.

Thanks for the reply!

I've got the Ball Joint off the Pedal Rod, now I need to remove the caked on gunk from the threads.

It seems like this would be a common problem for PSG'ers.

Professor Google just talks about using heat to loosen bolts, not how to remove the gunk from threads...

Any ideas would be most welcome!

Most don't use any thread locker on the pedal rods. There is really no need for it if you have a nut on the rod to tighten down on the ball joint.

Glad you found out how to get the goop out of the threads.

I agree 100%. It can potentially ruin the pedal rods and ball joints, especially when it comes to resale.

Probably one of the previous owners didn't plan to sell it.

Luckily I've been able to remove it with heat and the wire brush, but now I need a T-shirt that says:

Don't use thread locker on your pedal rods!

The only ones who would understand would be other PSG'ers, and then I'd be able to say, "Been there, got the T-shirt". Embarassed Laughing Very Happy

I'd have thought that chasing the threads with a fresh nut would clean the rods, and a clean rod would clean the fittings.
