| I bought a Quilter Steelaire and really like it. Very clean and lots of power. Also sounds great with a fiddle thru it. |

Very interesting article. Especially the reviewer's' observation that on it's own he feels it sounds worse than tube amps but in a live situation he things it sounds better.
My brother loves his quilter. It sounds great and is so darn light to carry around. |

Thanks, Mike. I'm giving the Steelaire a serious look. I borrowed one from Jim Bloomfield last week.
My band had two gigs on Saturday, with a mountain drive between them. It was nice having a 35 pound amp. My Fender HR Deluxe is 48 pounds. The Steelaire delivered on every promise.
It was interesting to read the reviewer's preference for a tube amp in a solo (studio?) setting, but the Quilter is his performing amp. I returned Jim's Steelaire today, came home and practiced with my Deluxe. Expecting disappointment, I was pleasantly surprised with it's warmth and "feel." But my 6 piece band is loud, the Deluxe is only 40 watts, it's heavy, and I need the direct out.
There may be better steel guitar amps, but the Steelaire is the best bang for the buck. I can't swing it just yet, but I want one. |
