I'm considering buying this guitar with 8+4, built in 1992. just wondering if anyone is familiar with this model and has any words of advice or input one way or another. thanks!

I bought a new S-12 Uni from Bill in 1989. It was lacquer, and it had polished endplates, but otherwise it was probably very similar. Great guitar, very well made. It was smooth and precise and sounded really good. I got rid of it because the universal was not for me.
