I am replacing the built in cable and unsure where the wires connect to the on/off volume switch. There is also a short yellow coated wire from the back of the pickup that got detached. It appears to need to be attached to that on/off volume control but not sure exactly where. It was suggested in this forum to install a jack rather than replacing the built-in cable but there is no room inside the body for the back of a jack to fit so I can't go that route.

The center of the volume pot will go to the output jack. The other 2 lugs will be for an input and a ground. Because one of the lugs has a capacitor going to the tone control that would likely be the input or where your yellow wire in question goes to. The capacitor then goes to the other pot which then shuttles the signal to ground so it wouldn't make sense that it was going from one ground to another ground. A question that I have is where is the ground from the pickup? It appears that one of the tabs on the pickup had some solder on it so perhaps the pickup is grounded there? I'd take an ohm meter and check before re-assembling the electronics section- or at least tap the top of the pickup with a screwdriver when you think your wiring is correct as that will let you know that you're at least in the ballpark.

Why not just remove the tone & volume controls altogether. Wire direct from PU to output jack?

Or would it be too bright (shrill) if this was done.
