I'm playing (and I use that term loosely) a 10 year old CW (8/5) built by Carson Wells here in Texas. It's totally unmodified so I'm sure the pickups are stock as well. My question is ..."what kind are they"? And, are there better ones on the market? Thanks from a new member!

I don't know what he used on some but my two were George L's E66's.

I have a CW 8/7 and also have E66's. To me, they sound good with the CW construction make-up. Is that what you have?

Dave, my CW was almost new when I bought it 10 years ago. 8/5 almost standard set up. I've never inquired about the pickups before but I've read so much here about how the pickups can make a real difference and was wondering if these were just run of the mill "no-name" off the shelp pu's. They're not labeled, with 2 sets of 10 'holes' in the surface, one below each string. The top plastic seems to be divided into two pieces between the two sets of holes. Sorry about the poor description ... Thanks

Bob, it appears that you have double-coil (humbucking) pu's. Pick-ups can make a little or a lot of difference, but sometimes a name brand may not be better than "homemade". Go by satisfaction of sound. Also, there are several builders/repairmen in your area that would help you find out and assist in changing if you wanted to.

Thanks, Dave. I'm really quite happy with the sound of what's on the guitar. I'm not technically oriented though and was just curious about what I had. Thanks again!
