I was playing my steel through a 13 watt tube amp and above the 15th fret the notes sound almost like I have an effect on them and not a very nice effect. Hard to describe but it sounded like something computer generated, not very musical. Below the 15th fret, it sounded good.
Is what I am hearing harmonic distortion? Is it a factor of the frequency at the 15+ fret plus the amp being underpowered? I can play through this amp with my Telecaster and it sounds great at any fret. Is it the hotter PSG pickups?
thanks

Try plugging it into input 2, which attenuates the signal a bit.
Also try lowering the pickup a bit.

Thanks Lane. This is a Samamp and does not have but one input. I'll play with the pup.

I wonder if a light-duty transformer stepping down the voltage wouldn't prevent saturating the input.
I also wonder what effect it'd have on the pickup load.
