These are the acrylic fretboards for the Magnatone lyric double neck. I just want to know if I can refinish these,,, what chemicals to avoid. Should I hit the back with white spray paint or should I sand it first and then hit it with spray paint? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One more vote for Mr. Piburn.
I had an acrylic fretboard that was a mess.
I polished the board, both top and bottom until it was spotless
and then put it over one of George's peel-n-stick fretboards.
Also used one for a catcan rebuild for it's fretboard.
They look great and very easy to apply. _________________ I have stuff.

Thing is ... these are grooved on the under side for the fret markers & dots , so would that still work? _________________ Visit my Studio: LimeStoneLabs at.. http://Facebook.com/LSlabs

Hmmm....the neck I had wasn't grooved.....just silk screened.
Neither the lap steel nor the catcan I had was worth trying to return to original condition.
Really messed up and I was just trying make them look nice and be playable.
I have no idea what could remove paint and not harm the acrylic.
I am not even sure I would risk experimenting if you want to keep it looking original.
On one of my guitars I used a sticky back fretboard and covered it with an acrylic sheet cut to fit.
On the catcan I just used the fretboard and did not cover it but returning either one to original condition was not possible.
Below is the catcan.
The original fretbaord was a silk screened very thin sheet of tin and not fixable.......at least for me.
I think the peel and stick board looks nice and it is perfectly serviceable and very easy to install.
Wish I could help but I'm just a hobbyist with a hammer and a roll of duct tape for tools.........

i think I'd just try touching up the spots where the white paint is missing with some vinyl upholstery spray paint from an automotive store. That worked on a black background acrylic fretboard on an Oahu guitar I used to own. |
