Neat old double neck. Does NOT include pedal bar or pedals. Electronics work. Two of the legs don't seem to tighten when raised, may need to be repaired, sits at about 30" high with the legs not extended. The tone is very nice. 400.00. Has a case that seems original, extremely heavy so prefer local pick up in Gunnison Colorado. Buyer pays actual shipping if we go that route, probably around $100.00 or so. Please call with any questions, Kent, Castle Creek Guitars, 970-641-2747

I very much doubt if Fender was building pedal steels in the mid '50s.
They just broke the ice with the long scale Stringmaster.

Fender started making pedal steels in about 1958.

Fender definitely built pedal steels in the '50s. And this definitely one of them, an early long scale 400.

Your entitled to your opinion, but it's not based in fact.

I should have said it's a 1000 (double neck), not a 400.

I think the problem dating Fender guitars is using the date off some of the components on the guitar, for instance, the tone and volume pots.
Fender just threw the parts in big bins and sometimes the early parts, at the bottom, weren't put on the guitars until years later.

Very true Erv. Not trying to hijack the thread-just wanted a potential buyer(who I wish was me but my wife would kill me if another steel showed up) that it could be an earlier one. Best of luck with the sale and whoever did the refinish did a pretty and thorough job! Seems like most of the ones you see still have the original paint on the bottom. I've got a neck on mine set up as E13 lap and it sounds killer through those pickups.

Would you consider ship to Australia? I should warn you, it is a big hassle, especially as these old 400/800 style guitars are very heavy.
Of course I would pay costs, but ir will ba a hassle your end too.

FYI: The pencil date on a Fender body indicates the date that the body was painted, not the date of completion or final inspection of the guitar. So that date could be weeks or even months before a guitar was completed, inspected, and shipped to a dealer.

The Fender 1000 first appeared in 1957. The polished aluminum frame says this one dates from 57 - 58. In 1959 Fender switched to the black frame, because the polished aluminum was causing flares when hit by TV lights. This one also appears to have been refinished. Too bad it's missing the pedals - they are extremely rare and expensive when they do show up. It will make a decent D-8 straight steel.
