I love the playing of Bobby Ingano...I was wondering if you guys could recommend others for me to listen to that are similar to his playing.
Thanks in advance. _________________ Zum Encore, Remington D8 non pedal, Hallmark Mosrite clone, Gretsch 6120 DSW, Gretsch G5210T-P90 Electromatic Jet Two 90,1976 Ibanez L5, Eastman archtop, Taylor Dreadnaught, Telonics pedal, Squire Tele, Squire Strat, Fender Tonemaster, Gold Tone 5 string banjo, Little Wonder tenor banjo, 3 Roland cubes 30s and 80, Carvin combo bass amp

......"similar to his playing"...........
Not sure what you are looking for or what era of Hawaiian music has you fascinated.
10 steel players off the top of my head. Some of these guys recorded a lot under their own name and others mostly did sessions behind singers. These are big names in Hawaiian music, but of course there are dozens of others worthy of your time.
Jules Ah See
Billy Hew Len
Barney Isaacs
David Keli'i
Dick McIntire
Andy Iona
Pua Almeida
Bob Nichols
Bernie Ka'ai (Lewis)
Danny Stewart
10 singers and groups
Bill (Ali'iloa) Lincoln
Lena Machado
Genoa Keawe
Alfred Apaka
Gabby Pahinui (also a steel player)
Benny Kalama
The Polynesians
Lani McIntire
Sol K. Bright (also a steel player)
The Maile Serenaders
The above are the people Ingano would have been listening to all of his life.
Two more steel players for something different:
Rudy Wairata
George de Fretes

Pound on Youtube to expand your taste. There's also some good Hawaiian Internet radio out there. |

I've talked with Bobby several times about his most favorite guitarist, his teacher David "Feet " Rodgers and Gabby Pahinui. I also learned their licks from Bobby. |

Bobby has a style that is easy to recognize, and even the his sound seems to be his own....
He almost never plays anything but a Rick frypan, but does rarely use a bakelite.. |
